The inauguration of the Transatlantic Studies Association took place on 11 July 2002 with the first of its annual conferences.  Lord Robertson, Secretary General of NATO welcomed the delegates with a video message commending the new initiative.  The conferences have grown in strength ever since and now attract over 100 delegates each year drawn mainly from North America (35%), from Europe excluding the UK (25%), and UK (35%).  In 2008 the Association was granted charitable status and formally adopted its constitution with Alan Dobson as Chair (Dundee University), David Ryan as Vice Chair (University College Cork), Tony McCulloch as Secretary (Canterbury Christ Church University), and Tony Jackson as Treasurer (Dundee University) with Joe McKinney (Baylor University) and Fiona Venn (Essex University) as founding trustees.

The Association has a monthly E-bulletin overseen by Tony McCulloch tony.mcculloch@transatlanticstudies.com and an annual Newsletter overseen by David Ryan david.ryan@transatlanticstudies.com.  Its sister journal - The Journal of Transatlantic Studies - is published by Routledge quarterly from 2009 (originally it was published by Edinburgh University).  The editor is Alan Dobson alan.dobson@transatlanticstudies.com

Links have been cultivated with various other associations and organizations including the
British Association for American Studies and the Society for the History of American Foreign Relations.  The Association has been supported financially by the US Embassy London, NATO, the Bruce Center Keele University, Baylor University, the Dundee and Angus Convention Bureau, University College Cork, Failte Ireland, and the British Academy.

The Association has created a database of its members providing information on over 150 specialists throughout the world, including their current research and past publications.  Please take the opportunity to browse through the database.  Feel free to add your own information by contacting Michael Patrick Cullinane.
