THE WILLIAMSBURG AREA

William & Mary is located in the heart of Williamsburg, a city known for its colonial architecture, walkable streets, and longstanding academic and historical traditions. The university sits adjacent to Colonial Williamsburg, a restored 17th and 18th century town featuring preserved buildings, museums, and public spaces. The area brims with the region’s early American history while also creating a relaxing vacation spot. Downtown Williamsburg features unique restaurants, cafes, and bookstores, all within walking distance of the university.

Williamsburg forms one third of the historic “triangle” which also includes Jamestown (site of the first permanent English settlement in North America) and Yorktown (location of the decisive 1781 Revolutionary War Victory).
